Donating a car, truck, boat or other vehicle is a simple and easy
way to deal with a vehicle that you no longer need or want. Donating
to a reputable charity also allows you deduct the vehicle's value
from your federal income tax and takes the trouble out of what to
do with the vehicle. Why sell that car for just a few dollars when
you can gain much more by donating it to charity and help someone
in need at the same time?
There are many reasons to donate your vehicle. Whether you want
to help society or help those less fortunate then yourself, or because
of the federal tax deduction, your car, truck or other vehicle donation
is a great way to go.
Types of organizations and Charities that will accept your
vehicle donations:
1) One type of organization is not actually a charity, but is
a clearinghouse for vehicle donations. Organizations such as this
are contracted to receive and sell the donated vehicles. For their
services they take a portion of the sale and then they give the
remainder to the charity you have chosen. The Federal Income Tax
deduction you receive for your charitable donation is limited
to the amount the charity organization actually receives; Some
of these are non profit and some are for profit;
3) The individual charity itself - this can be an ideal way to
donate a vehicle. Its not always available if you are particular
about which cause you want your donation to go to since only some
of the bigger charities are able to have in house car donation
department. This is an advantageous method though because the
charity is able to keep the more of the funds from your donation
and allocate the money directly to their charitible cause;
